SynopsisHistorically, the majority of temporary works in the UK have been designed to British Standards using permissible stress methods. The harmonization of European structural design codes has led to the withdrawal of many of these documents and a change to a limit state approach. Although there is a great deal of published guidance for the Permanent Works Designer, very little is available for the application of European Standards to Temporary Works. In order to assist all interested parties, and foster a common approach, this guidance note provides a comprehensive background to the subject and makes general recommendations on the application of European Standards to Temporary Works. The Temporary Works sector is currently in a state of transition and unless specified by the contract a designeris free to choose a suitable method of design.#twf#guide#temporaryworks#europeanstandards#design
